I have said this before: Project Ara is a good idea, but it needs a big company behind it to succeed.
And I mean a company that really wants for this to work. Google is behind the Project Ara team and Android is running on their prototypes, but a device like this will not make money in the future so why would they support it?
It’s much easier to have a new device sold every minute and completely replaced within 18 months than just sell hardware upgrades that can go out for 2% of the price.
On the other hand, Google makes its money by selling Internet-based services and ads and they might as well back this up just because it is a good platform for their OS.
Also, judging by the way this prototype looks, this is not going to come out in the next months.
