Did you update to OS X Yosemite and some of the Continuity features are not working? This may be due to a poor/incorrect setup or due to the fact that you are running the new software on old hardware.
Sure you can buy a new Mac, but wouldn’t it be easier just to find ways to enable all the great stuff like handoff, SMS Relay and iPhone calling?
A team of developers lead by dokterdok managed to find a solution. They call it “Continuity Activation Lock” and you can download it for free on GitHub.
I rarely discover awesome mobile apps. Some are great because of their design and functionality. But this is just magical.
PhotoMath is an app that uses the camera to “see” equations and solves them right away. I don’t know how they do it, but I wish I had something like this 20+ years ago when I was in school.
According to its description, the app “supports basic arithmetics, fractions, decimal numbers, linear equations and several functions like logarithms”. Best of all, PhotoMath is Free.
This is a great example of a Failed launch. Google announced today “Inbox”. It’s just like Mailbox (the app bought by Dropbox) so you can snooze or set reminders for new emails.
The Big Fail of this launch is two sided. On one hand Google is asking users to download the free app for iOS or Android and then ask for an invitation via email. Yes. You have to send an email to email@example.com.
If you are among the lucky ones to have a working Mac – iPhone calling feature then you have to use this little free app. Continuity Keypad is just a simple way to dial phone numbers on your Mac.
Apple’s way is not difficult, but it’s not as visual. You have to Open FaceTime and in the upper left corner you will see a field that says Enter a name, email, or number. Enter the phone number and you will see a right click menu that will say Call using iPhone.
Given the plethora of errors and strange behaviors in iOS 8.0.2 I chose to clean install iOS 8.1. And so far everything works fine. Sure, I’ll notice the few bugs Apple forgot to take care of in the next week or so and so will you.
Just because everyone asks, the biggest new things about iOS 8.1 are: sms relay (option to send and receive text messages from your Mac or iPad via iPhone), Apple Pay (if you have an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus), and the return of the Camera Roll.
